afghan yarn question

#1

I want to knit my first afghan. I’m not sure what is the best yarn and how many skeins of yarn to buy. My pattern calls for worsted weight yarn: 44 ounces, (1,250 grams, 3,015 yards). Should I buy by the ounce or by the yard? TIA

Hi there!!

As far as yarn goes, it would depend on a few things:

If u want your afghan to be machine washable/dryable and/or have kids who will be getting it dirty a lot, I would recommend acrylic yarn like Red Heart Super Saver, Caron One Pound or Lion Brand Pound of Love. Worsted weight means Icon #4. Any smooth #4 yarn should work.

If it was me, I would go with the yardage and not the weight. And after you’ve figured out how many skeins to buy in your chosen yarn, add 2-3 more. Just to be sure you have enough!!! You don’t want to run out and then find out that the store has run out as well!!! (Not fun, don’t ask me how I know!!!)

Enjoy your project and be sure to post a pic when you’re done!!
