Afghan squares patterns please?

Hi everyone

knitting is taking over my life.
I started in December '05, and have since knit 4 scarves, 10 hats, and two thirds of an afghan.

The afghan is made from three strips which incorporate 5 squares (originally 4 squares in the pattern, but I wanted something bigger). original pattern is for Manos wool, but I am doing it with Plymouth Encore using double strands (I am a loose knitter and also wanted this to be washable).

I am looking for some more relatively easy patterns for the squares. Each strip is 52 stitches wide. I don’t know how to do cable yet and would rather put that off for another project. So far I know knit, purl, ssk, psso, yo, ribbing, seed stitch, and of course casting on and off.

If you could tell me how to find interesting, not too lacey squares which would work in this project, I would appreciate it. I want to make each square a different texture pattern (solid color), but since I made the overall project larger, i have run out of patterns in the Manos booklet I bought.

Thanks for your help!

Check out www.knittingpatterncentral.com for afghan patterns and dishcloth patterns. You can also check out their knitting stitch directory for inspiration.

Here’s another sitewith GREAT free “dishcloth” patterns, which can easily be converted to afghan squares. Most will tell you what the stitch repeat is, just in case they are not 52 sts. You can get as close as possible and make up for it in the seaming.

Thanks so much–these are great sources!

You might want to take a look at this. I did several of the squares from this for a crazy quilt afghan I made.
