Well! So far, so good! I’m managing to stick with my first big project of knitting myself the afghan I’ve always wanted! No, no pictures yet. I only have about 6" done and a couple major mistakes show up badly! But I’m treating it as a learning process and don’t care that those mistakes are going to stay put. Besides, I didn’t see the first mistake until a couple inches later and no way was I going back that far! :roflhard: I know what I did wrong and that’s good enough at this point. At first I had a hard time keeping track of the pattern but I finally remembered a hint read somewhere to use stitch markers between each pattern repeat. That helps a lot! So now it’s going much easier and I’m having a hard time getting anything else done. I’m obsessed with this silly afghan! I just hope it lasts until I can get it done. Do you do that? Get obsessed with a project and can’t bear to put it down?
I have a hard time sticking to something that large because they seem to take forever so good for you for doing it! You’ll probably be the only one who can see the mistakes. Can’t wait to see it!
I get obsessed with every project - big or small!!!
In the early 1980s I decided to crochet an afghan for all my sisters, brother, nieces and nephews for Christmas that year - I have 4 sisters, 2 brothers and at the time there were 13 nieces and nephews. I never had a problem continuing working on them!!!
Sounds like a wonderful obsession to me!
I started knitting an afghan over a year ago, then needed to borrow the large circular needle it was on to make a baby blanket. Trouble is, when putting it back together a few months ago, I switched to a smaller sized needle (those darn interchangeables), knit 6 inches on the smaller before I noticed. Now it sits in a drawer looking sad and neglected while I knit a hat.
I get obsessed with afghans for awhile and then I get extremely tired of them when I seem to be progressing slowly and take a break to do something else. I am making one right now in a basket weave pattern, 45x60", that seems neverending. Not that I don’t enjoy doing it but the pattern is boring. So I stopped and made some socks. Now back to it madly trying to finish and having numbness in my hands up into my arm. Time to take a break!:knitting:
Hi!
I too went the route of making afghans for all my immediate family and ended up making 9 of those puppies!
One of the things that helped me keep focused was that I chose patterns that were done in panels or strips. The panels were somewhat different so that I got a break from the absolute OCEAN an afghan seems to be, especially when you’re 3/4 of the way through!
My favorite afghan is one where the two end panels are the same and the center one is different but coordinates beautifully with the end panels. I do one end, the center and then the other end. It moves quickly and smoothly and the family loves them. (So far I’ve done 4 and need to do one more for a niece’s wedding in June). Holey-moley, I guess I’d better get busy… :o)
Good luck with your afghan and let us know how it goes and please post a picture when you’re done. We’ll all love to see it!
Happy knitting,
Ruthie
Pretty much every project is an obsession. I can’t wait to get back to the current one and make some more progress. Good luck with the afghan and post a photo of the finished project!
