Advice on "twisted stitches"

Hello knitters,
I am a total beginner with a couple of questions. After a few weeks of practice with the knit and purl stitch, I have begun to try different patterns. The other day I tried the seed stitch and for some reason, the stitches are not lining up correctly. They seem to get twisted and I don’t really know if I am looping the right side. Do you know what I mean? My question is, what is your advice when mixing up and knit and purl stitches so that the loops are lined up correctly? The other question I had involves the purl stitch. Are the purl stitches supposed to slant a certain way?
Thank you so much for your help!

Anne

Some yarns tend to pull one way or the other…maybe that’s it? Seed stitch is just knits and purls then you alternate so there’s no trick really. Can you take a photo so we can see what you mean?

I guess my problem is with alternating stitches. As soon as I stitch the alternating stitch, it seems like the loop is twisted over. It is probably just a matter of more practice. I was wondering if I was not doing it correctly.

Make sure you bring your yarn to the front for the purl and to the back for the knit.

Sometimes it doesn’t look ‘right’ until you’ve done a few rows.

Are you wrapping both the Ks and Ps in the same direction? If not, one will be twisted. The right leg of each stitch should be on the front of your ndl.

Bring your yarn to the front and back between the needle tips, not over the needles.

thank you everyone. Yes, the problem was that I was not bringing the yarn to the front of the needle when doing the purl. Easy mistake to make, I suppose, but now it’s so much easier to make the patterns that I am learning. Yay!

Oh, yes, that is an easy mistake to make and one many of us made when we started out, I know I did. I was like, “What is happening I know I did a knit stitch and a purl stitch. This is impossible, why is it all weird looking.” LOL I had to get help, I could not figure it out either.
