Adjusting sweater size while knitting

I’ve finished the back of a cardigan and started the left front. I’m realizing by holding it up, etc. that it might be a tad small. I’ve finished the ribbing and the rest is stockinette. Would it be ok to increase on each side (maybe every other row for 8 rows or so) to get to be about an inch wider on the left front and then do the same on the right front? I would keep track of how many extra stitches and bind off accordingly at the shape armhole stage. Does this work as a sizing method? I haven’t been able to find out anywhere how to do this without unknitting…Thanks for the help!

I think that’s a great idea! Much better than taking out the whole back.
