Hello. I am new to stranded colorwork. I’ve only done one pattern so far. My next project I want to make a pair of socks, but the pattern is sized for EU 38/39. I need it to fit a women’s US 6 1/2. How would I be able to adjust the pattern for the correct size?
Welcome to KH!
Ordinarily, you could adjust the size between the toe and the heel. That may mean adding to the colorwork pattern.
What is the name of your pattern?
Thanks for the welcome. The name of the pattern is Novita Christmas Socks. I found it on Ravelry for free.
There are a couple of patterns online including these.
The idea is similar whichever one. You’ll probably extend the foot between motifs, either plain or with maybe a simple dotted pattern.
That is the pattern I want to use. From what I know of sizes the size of the pattern is bigger than the size of the foot. EU 38/39 is more like a size US 8/9. Since it’s such a big difference in sizes I wasn’t for sure how I would adjust the pattern.
Depending on your row gauge, you can play around with eliminating a motif and substituting a shorter one or modifying a motif. I’ve seen the poinsettia knit as a half motif. Maybe one of the animals in the leg could be substituted for it.
You’ll have to check stitch number also to see how the repeat would work around the foot (it may need to be spaced differently).
Oh. Okay. Thank you very much. That makes a lot of sense. I’ve been trying to work it out in my head for a couple of weeks now and just wasn’t able to figure it out. I think I should be able to play around with it now and get it to work right.
