Adding one stich in sock's knitting

Good morning everyone:

At the beginning of sock knitting on 4 double point needles (an equal number of stiches on 3 needles (20-20-20) plus one working needle), I realized after a few rounds that I have added one additional stitch on one of my needle. I really cannot figure out what is my mistake beacause I am very careful in the count of stitches on each needle. Could it be related to the position of each double point needles in relation with the following dpn needle (whether the tip of one needle sits over or under the other)? This is a recurrent problem that kept me skeptical about my ability to knit with a multiple count of double point needles.

If one of you have any clue about this problem, I would be grateful if you would share it with me.

I have never personally had this problem… so I don’t know what to say other than to decrease a stitch! sorry

Sometimes when switching from one needle to the other, especially when you’re switching from knit to purl, you can get an extra yarn over stitch at the end or beginning of a needle. Look closely at the end stitches. The wrong ones look different and can be slipped off the needle without any consequence.

I’ve found that I prefer starting each needle with a knit stitch rather than a purl, regardless of where the stitches should be.

Yep I think it is due to my wool going from the last stitch around the outside of the knitting, over the top of the needle toward the next stitch and needle, you’re making yos. But they are easy to see, just check carefully you’re not doing it at the end of each needle when you switch and if you do see one, just drop it off.

I will be extremely careful at the beginning and end of each needle… One of my friends has also encountered this problem so I will share with her the remedy…Ingrid, I was expecting your reply as you are an active intervenor always trying to help on this forum.
