Adding Border to Baby Sweater

OK, so I’ve finished assembling the baby bolero I’m making, and now it says this on the pattern:

BORDER
Right Side:

Join raglan and side seams (done). With rs facing, using 3 1/2mm needles, starting at centre of lower edge of back, pick up and knit 27 sts evenly to side seam, 21 sts evenly along lower edge of right front, 6 sts evenly along shaped edge, 4 sts evenly along straight edge.

I have no clue how to pick up and knit stitches. What does that mean? I have a feeling I’m going to have to take this into the knitting store and have them show me, but I thought I’d try to ask here. You guys are great about making sense out of “pattern speak”.

with the right side facing you go along the edge of the knitting insert your needle into the “holes” and knit them making sure that you do it evenly along the edge.

Under BASIC TECHNIQUES tab at the top of the page there is a video that shows you how to do it.
It’s under assorted topics toward the bottom.
