Addi turbo question/prob

OK, today I treated myself and bought a pair of the Addi Turbo circular needles. Everyone was right, they are awesome and make the coolest sound!

But… I have a problem or question. One of the tips feels… rough - kinda like a hang-nail rough. Does that make sense? When I’m knitting along, it almost feels like it scratches the tip of my finger. Is this normal? One tip feels silky smooth and the other has this one little… bump on it.

What do I do? :?? I have a few ideas: #1 - take them back - only problem, I am using them and have a project on them. #2 - buff the tip very lightly - DH has a buffing wheel for jewelry and could probably smooth it out but I do not want to ruin the needles doing this. #3 - get over it! It may be that this is normal and I’m being a dork.

Can someone help me out here? What’s normal for these needles? If I haven’t explained myself clearly, let me know and I’ll see if I can’t do a bit better. It just feels… rough.

It shouldn’t feel that way. I’d put my project on a piece of yarn or another set of needles and exchange them. I’d be afraid that if I buffed them, I’d ruin them and wouldn’t be able to replace them.

I’m thinking it’s just a freak occurance that a little spot was missed in their finishing process. I have two suggestions… call the shop you got them at and see what they suggest as far as exchange. If they say to bring them back, the put your knitting on a length of waste yarn (use a darning needle and yarn and just run it thru all your stitches) like a big stitch holder, and take them back for an exchange. one of my LYS only take back needles that are defective. My other suggestion is let your DH buff the tip. it shouldn’t hurt if it’s a jewelry buffer. it’s not like you are buffing the whole length and you’d have to be wary of taking off too much and risk changing the needle’s size.

Thank you BOTH for your input! I was so worried that this was “normal” and I just wasn’t to thrilled. It’s really not horrible but it’s… scratchy. I get that little cringe feeling every time my finger rubs against it.

I think that I’ll go back in the morning with my work on the needles and show them and ask… “what do you want me to do?” If I’m lucky, they will hand me a new pair and say “transfer your stitches and give us the bad needles”! :happydance: :happydance: I think that’s an excellent idea plus… they were so nice and awesome earlier that I don’t see this as a problem!

Either way… Ingrid was right to suggest that I take the needles back. I followed through on leaving my work on the needles and explaining and, just like I hoped, she handed me a new pair and said, “well, start knitting and just give me those others. These are on their way back.” :happydance:

Just a FYI here… DO NOT follow my other idea of buffing out the problem. Apparently this will cause the finish to “peel”! :shock: Not a good thing! The company is, according to everyone at the LYS, very good about returns so the LYS was totally cool with my exchange! :happydance:
