Adapting this pattern

This is a cabled wallet/purse. I’m wanting to make it into a wrist

What do you mean “into a wrist”?

It must have autocorrected. I meant a wristlet

Are you wanting a wrist strap on the wallet or a wrist warmer? If you want a wrist strap, just make the strap long enough to fit your wrist comfortably.

A wrist strap so I can just use it instead of my purse

Yeah, just make the strap the length you want. I think I might sub an I cord for the stockinette, I think it would work better.

Okay Thank You. Where should I attach it? Is there a certain way I should attach it to the bag?

You could attach it where the orange loops are attached in the photos, either at the end with the flower or the opposite end. It looks like the those orange loops are just sewn into the bag and you could do the same with a strap, use sewing thread to stitch it to the inside corner of the bag.
Neat little purse!

Ok Thanks. I’m getting ready to work on it now

In the pattern it calls for a zipper, but I’m wanting a button. Where should I put the button hole?

You could place the buttonhole in the center. several rows after the cast on. See what the first ~4 rows look like and decide if that’s about how much distance from the cast on that you’d like. You might also consider using a drocheted or knit loop instead of a bottonhole. That way the loop would be attached to the inside back and reach over the top from the back and catch the button on the front.

Thank you that’s what I’ll do. This one is giving me some major problems. This bag uses a horseshoe cable, I don’t much care for it. I think I’m going to change it, but still keep the shape of the bag. Is there a cable that you like to use? That would look better on this bag?

Looking at the pattern, without a zipper it will be open all the way across the top and a button might not close it as securely as you want. You might need a flap to come over the top from the back and button in the front. I can just visualize my stuff falling out before I get it all in or worse than that, I can get it all in but it’s scattered all over the floor of a store because that’s when it decides to fall out. It would depend on how big you make it maybe. A wallet size is what I"m thinking of, a larger bag might not scatter my stuff like that.

The pattern calls for 17 repeats. I’m going to do about 25 or 30. With a smaller wallet. I’m trying to take this pattern and modify it for my needs. I really want to change that cable. Any idead?

There are lots of cable patterns out there. Here’s a Google search with links to check. With so many cable patterns to choose from it’s hard to make a recommendation of just one and you might not like the same ones I do.

I tried designing a 6 strained plait cable worked over st st, with a border of seed st. But it didn’t work.

Here’s a classic 6 stitch cable with a purl background. You could substitute a seed stitch background throughout or just on the 3 or 4 flanking sts. If you’d prefer a double cable, you could do two 4 stitch cables with a purl stitch or 2 separating them. Keep experimenting and check out some of the possibilities that GG linked to for more ideas.
