Across vs Repeat

Hi, I found a nice pattern for a shawl I would like to try, but somehow I just can’t figure this out:

Row 4: P3, (drop Yo, P2) across.

I know that ** means you repeat what is between the stars, but with parenthesis, do you only repeat what is between () or the whole thing - P3 (drop Yo, P2) when the pattern just states ‘across’?

And also, does the parenthesis mean I have to make the ‘drop the yarn over, P2’ into one stitch?

Thank you so much!

So happy I found this site, have many questions to ask

In this case, you do the instructions in parenthesis across the row, don’t repeat the P3. I’m really not sure about the yarn over bit, though!

Welcome!
Just repeat the directions in parentheses across the row as Shintoga suggested. The “drop the yo, p2” aren’t worked into a single stitch. In the previous row you must have made a yo which will now be dropped off the left needle.

Thank you so much! :hibiscus:And to think I’ve searched all over on the web and couldn’t get a straight answer. Appreciate it :+1:

Thank you so much! :sunflower:Now finally it makes sense. It just didn’t make sense to knit it into a single stitch, as one website suggested, and I also didn’t think it possible with a dropped stitch as well. Yes, in the previous row there is a yo. I’m so happy now, finally I can continue with my shawl :star_struck:
