Abbreviations have me stumped

I am attempting a baby’s layette from and old Patons Knitting Book (No. R23). The instruction is:

1st row - K.1. purl to last st., K.1.
2nd row - K.1, * w1. fwd., slip 1 purlways, K.2 tog., rep. from * to last st., K.1.
3rd row - as 2nd row
4th row - K.1, * K.1, knit long loop formed by w1. fwd of previous row, K.1, rep from * to las st., K.1.

My difficulty is I don’t know what w1. fwd., means. Is it wrapping the wool round the needle to create a loop in a knitwise direction?

Any help appreciated.

I bet that’s a wl fwd which is wool forward, same as a yo.
