Today in Canada is the Commemoration of the Great Upheaval. How was this date chosen? How is it usually observed throughout Canada? I understand that this is a recent observance beginning in 2003 so that there are probably not a lot of traditions associated with it.
I didn’t even know about it! I’m not Acadian, but I know August 15 is National Acadian Day. It does make sense however to have another date for the commemoration of the expulsion. July 28 for commemorating a very sad event, and August 15 for celebrating the culture.
Thank you for letting us know! To tell you the truth I am sad and ashamed that I didn’t know about this. :pout:
Iza, I live right next door and today is the first time I heard about it, too! I listen to CBC Radio Two and watch the Windsor CBC-affiliate channel (Peter Mansbridge rocks!) and have missed this since its inception five years ago! Thanks for letting us know about National Acadian Day!
