The pattern is “Socks Knit on a Small Circular Needle” at Ravelry.com. This is the second set of socks I’ve knit, the first being tube socks. So, I am at Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until all sts have been worked, on the Turn Heel as Follows section. I have my heel flap on three dpn’s, 6, 20 and 6. Can you please explain to me what “Repeat rows 2 and 3 until all sts have been worked” means? Am I brain-dead today or what? I just don’t get it!
Okay, wait. Am I working on only the 20 sts until all the sts have been worked?
OK, you have the 32 heel flap sts on your dpn. Work on those 32sts.
Row 1 – Sl1 purlwise, P 23 (24, 26, 28), P2tog, turn
Here you’ll work on the first 26sts then turn and continue with the directions for rows 2 and 3. Don’t worry about the unused sts out of the original 32. You’ll gradually work those into the heel turn
Row 2 – Sl1 purlwise, K16 (17, 18, 18), SSK, turn
Row 3 – Sl1 purlwise, P16 (17, 18, 18), P2tog, turn
Continue until all of the original 32sts have been used.
Here’s a trick of the trade. After you’ve finished your heel turn, you will join your work with the other stitches that have been on hold on the other needles. When you join and begin to knit in the round again, you will have a big hole where you join them up. It’s normal. You’ve done nothing wrong. This will be on the left side and right of the work, at the edges of the heel turn. Pick up one, two, or as many stitches as you need in these spaces to close that hole. On the next one or two rounds, decrease the stitches you’ve just picked up until you’re back to your original stitch count. This is something the patterns never tell you to do.
Thank you both so much for your help. I can’t believe I couldn’t figure that out for myself!
