A Knitter REALLY Interrupted

OK, I think I’m sticking with this name… suits me

I haven’t thought of a cool name yet…But here it is. I like skimming through all of these blog threads, so I figured I’d start my own.
I’m an inconsistent computer user - I may be on all the time for a month or so, and then do nothing but check my email for a few months, so if you’re reading this, sorry about that. I will work on my 100 things about me, just in case anyone wants to know 100 things about me. If not, just skip to the second page (once it’s there).
Welcome to my world!

YO YO YO PHM!! Welcome to Blogland!! :waving:

:waving: :waving: I hope you have fun w/ the 100 things; I thought it was hard to do…

100 THINGS ABOUT ME

 1. My real name is Rebecca. I was never that crazy about it, but I like it better than what most people call me, which is Becky. I don’t mind Bec, though.

 2. My middle name is Jean. I like that. It’s after my grandmother - I’m glad my parents went with Jean (which was also Granny’s middle name) rather than her first name. Mildred.

 3. My sister’s middle name is cool - Elizabeth. I always wished it was my first name. There are so many different possibilities from Elizabeth - Eliza, Liz, Liza, Beth, Betty,Lizzy - which suited me because some days growing up, I just wanted to be someone else. Don’t we all?

 4. I am now very glad that I am me.

 5. I was born in MI, and lived there til I was 19. I moved to Florida and hated it. I am now 28, and have just moved back up North, although to Pennsylvania, not Michigan. Doesn’t matter though, I like it here.

 6. I have a younger sister and an older brother. I am superextremelyreally close to my sister, even though she lives in FL and for some goofy reason (I think she called it…snow? Was that it?) she refuses to move to Pennsylvania. Haven’t talked to my brother for a while. I think he lives in MI, still.

 7. I also have a brother that my mom gave up for adoption. I am searching for him, but it hasn’t been going too well. So, if you’re by chance a knitting guy, and adopted, and reading this, he was born in Michigan in November, 1972. Give me a call.

 8. I am happily married, for almost seven years.

 9. I love my DH. He’s awesome. I met him 6 months after I moved to Florida, on New Year’s Eve - got engaged 2 months later, moved in together 2 months after that, and were married 6 months after that. Phew. That ws a busy year.

 10. I never wanted to have kids. I thought I’d be a horrible mom, and I was also afraid that I couldn’t have kids - my mom had 5 miscarriages, and I know my grandmother also had a lot. I figured it would be a lot easier to never try to have them than to risk having miscarriages and/or being a bad mom, so i made up my mind to just never have them.

 11. My husband really wanted kids.

 12. We have 2 adorable boys.

 13. I did have two miscarriages, but I’m okay with that, now. We’ve just decided not to try for any more kids. And I think I turned out to be a pretty good mom. And I’m extra blessed, because I have a ton of neices and nephews that I love like they were my own.

 14. I am lucky enough to be a stay at home mom for now, although I think I will be starting to work again soon.

 15. I have no idea wtf I’ll be doing, though. Still haven’t decided what I want to be when I grow up.

 16. My problem is not that I don’t like doing anything, it’s that there are too many things that I like to do and none of them are really comercially realistic. Oh well, I’ll get it figured out - hopefully soon.

 17. I like to read - a lot.

 18. I like to write. If you want you can read some of my stuff here. Just remember, I said I liked it, I didn’t say I was great at it.

 19. I like to draw and paint, too. I never thought I was all that great, but my DH wants me to start again. I might, once I have a little more time.

 20. I can crochet, but I’m not crazy about it. Unless you’re using ultra thin yarn, it’s too bulky and hole-y for my taste. That’s why I decided to learn to knit - I figured if I could do that, I might make something that I would actually wear.

 21. I still haven’t made anything for myself.

 22. I also like sculpting.

 23. I like woodworking, too. I bought myself a woodburning kit last year, and that’s pretty neat, but not exactly safe with kids in the house.

 24. Unfortunately, I do not have a lot of my artwork because, like my knitting, I tend to give it away.

 25. I like carpentry, and general fix-it stuff, too. My dad taught me how to work on a car, fix a toilet, unclog a sink, mow a lawn, prune or cut down a tree, and all sorts of various miscellaneous stuff.

 26. I am teaching my DH (and eventually my boys) to do all of that stuff, too.

 27. DH still kills bugs for me.

 28. Even though I tell him to catch it and take it outside instead.

 29. The bugs up here are sissy bugs compared to the ones in Florida. The palmetto bugs(a type of beetle/cockroach thing that can easily grow to be about an inch or two long) alone are enough to send someone running, not to mention the spiders almost as big as your hand.

 30. Spiders never really bothered me until I moved there.

 31. I really, really did not like living in Florida.

 32. This is harder than I thought it would be. But, on the bright side, I’m almost 1/3 of the way through…

 33. Now I’m 1/3 of the way through.

 34. I really like my screen name

 35. My other screen name is Mamabear, which was what someone that I didn’t really like very much called me when I was pregnant with my first son. I liked the name though, and it has stuck around longer than the person that I didn’t like very much.

 36. I like this one because I really love my family, and I love music, it’s an important part of my life, and this showcases my two favorite kinds of music - punk and classic/protest rock.

 37. My husband introduced me to punk music. I was not crazy about at first.

 38. He used to call me his little hippie chick  That made me smile.

 39. I really started to like punk music when my ears ‘caught up’ to the music - it takes a while of listening to it before it sounds like anything except babbling.

 40. I like it a lot because not only is it fun and energetic, a lot of punk bands are very socially concious, and sing about things that mean something.

 41. Just like protest rock (:

 42. Then again, a lot of it is just about getting drunk or ‘altered’ and partying.

 43. Just like classic rock. (:

 44. I won’t list my favorite bands, but if you ask, I’ll tell you.

 45. I think music is just as evocotive as scent as far as being tied to memories is concerned. Play a song for me, and I can probably tell you the first time I heard it, what I was doing, who I was with, or something important that happened to me connected to that song.

 46. Unless I don’t know the song. then I’ll just stare at you blankly.

 47. But I enjoy a really wide range of music, so you probably would get an answer.

 48. I wish Name That Tune was still around. I would kick ass.

 49. One thing that I want to do is compile a soundtrack of my life, kind of like my autobiography on CD. That would be awesome, I think.

 50. Woo hoo! Halfway done! Are you bored yet??

 51. I am a socially concious person.

 52. I’m just concious of it, though. I am very empathetic, so I generally just learn what I can and try to see it from all points of view.

 53. I am a registered Democrat.

 54. This is ironic because I tend to lean towards the Republican ‘ideals’ of a smaller government and personal empowerment and responsibility - but I don’t think the Republicans practice them very well.

 55. And they suck on environmental issues, which I care about a lot.

 56. I like living in Amish country.

 57. If I could convince my DH to do it, I wouldn’t mind living that way.

 58. But I wouldn’t be Amish.

 59. I am not a fan of organized religion.

 60. It reminds me too much of a government.

 61. I wish every one was smart and moral enough that we didn’t need either.

 62. I was really kind of nervous about doing this, because I didn’t want to bore everyone with gushing about my kids and DH.

 63. I think I’ve done well so far.

 64. I am a very mulifaceted person, and this is difficult for me because there’s an awful lot about me to know.

 65. I like chocolate.

 66. Hey, 2/3 of the way through already, not bad!!

 67. I loooove coffee. I drink it so much that a friend of mine used to joke that he was going to create a comic book about me, called “The Adventures of Javagirl”

 68. Hey, that should be my screen name…hmmm…

 69. ~snicker~ ~snort~ ~giggle~

 70. My astrological sign is Cancer.

 71. My birthstone is ruby.

 72. I like crabs. They’re yummy.

 73. I don’t like rubies.

 74. I think stuff like astrology and Tarot is fun, but I don’t live by it.

 75. I live by trying to make myself a better person, to learn all that I can and by trying to make a difference, however small it may be.

 76. I believe in God.

 77. I will not forward an email that says, “if you believe in God, forward this to all your friends.”

 78. God will not disown me because I did not forward a stupid email, and you cannot prove your faith by forwarding an email.

 79. If I liked it, I will edit out that part and forward it to people that I think will enjoy it.

 80. You’re welcome.

 81. I have two dogs and a cat.

 82. I like dogs, but they were my husband’s idea. He never had one before.

 83. I like my cat, too.

 84. We always had a houseful of animals growing up. I think it’s important that people have pets; it teaches responsibility, respect for animals, and compassion.

 85. Did I mention I like coffee?? I’m going to go get some, brb…

 86. Okay, I’m back. Man this is good.

 87. Coffee is one of my two addictions. I also smoke.

 88. I’m not really crazy about that. I’ve been thinking about hypnosis to help me stop, I’ve heard that works really well. But I don’t like the idea of someone messing around in my head. That’s why I haven’t done it yet.

 89. I generally don’t drink, only occassionally, almost always socially.

 90. I did have a period of almost obsessive drinking and such, but I lacked the inherent hopelessness to let it go too far. Being in an altered state of mind just seemed kind of stupid after a while, and it only made my problems worse, so I stopped.

 91. I was very lucky that I hadn’t let things get so far that I couldn’t stop.

 92. That’s depressing, so I’m moving on.

 93. If I had to describe myself in one word, it would be “deep”.

 94. Not that I’m Socrates or anything, but there’s a lot going on underneath, and I don’t think anyone really has known all sides of me. Not even me.

 95. But I like that, I think it’s cool that I am finding out new stuff about myself all the time. When you stop growing, the only thing left to do is start dying.

 96. So hopefully, I’ll keep growing until I’m eighty or so, when I’ll move to a retirement home and eat chocolate donuts for breakfast every morning and laugh at the nurses when they try to make me switch to decaf.

 97. I hope to see the world before I die.

 98. I hope to write a novel before I die.

 99. I want to live to a ripe old age with my DH, and my wonderful sons, my sister and brothers in law and sisters in law and all my neices and nephews around me, and eventually all the grandbabies, grandnephews and grandneices I can fit in my house.

 100. I think the best thing in life is family -whether blood related or a family of friends- and that no one can live without that kind of love.

Over and out.

woo hoo, a welcome from the Queen of Blogland! :notworthy: What do you have, like 2,000 pages on your blog now?? :roflhard: That’s the only reason I haven’t read it yet - I think I’ll have to print it out and spend a weekend on it like the HP book!
Hiya ek :waving: The 100 things was harder than I thought it would be, but honestly I’ve been thinking about starting a blog for a while, so I had thought about at least 10 already - that’s a good start…
OK, my children are hungry and wondering why my eyeballs are falling out of my face - see you all tomorrow - same bat-time, same bat-channel!

GOOD FOR YOU!!! I work in a retirement community…we are all about aging dynamically! I LOVE your attitude! I HOPE you laugh at anyone who tries to make you switch to decaf! :roflhard:

Yeah, baby - red hats rule! :happydance:
I get this from my grandma (who sadly died of cancer years ago,at a relatively young age) and my DH’s grandma, who I love so much - she’s independent, straightforward, and, as she puts it, “too old to give a damn about what anyone else says.” :roflhard: The first mother’s day after I met DH, I bought her a framed calligraphy of the poem that goes ‘When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple…’ because it was just so her - what an inspiration…

But, then again, you’ve also caught me on a good day…

Actually, doing that 100 things was kind of liberating… and addictive! I keep thinking of more that I want to add…But there is such a thing as TMI

Yay!!! Another blog I won’t have time to read!!! j/k! I’m a horrible blog-reader.

Liked you’re 100 things… I like music too  And since I grew up in Baltimore, I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE crabs too!!! We went up to Amish country a lot when I was a kid-- Dutch Wonderland was my favorite favorite favorite place to be… then all of a sudden, when I was 12, it totally sucked, and I remember being mad that it wasn’t fun anymore. sigh Are you near gettysburg? We used to go there all the time too… DH thinks I’m a dork because I know a lot about the civil war

Whereas the rest of us think you’re a dork for totally different reasons!!

yeah, cuz I like math…and I sing songs to my kitties… and i’m never on KH anymore since I’m writing all the time… :verysad:

~snort~ You two remind me of me and my sister…
Actually, Hilde, I’m about ten minutes away from Dutch Wonderland. I’ll have to make sure that I take my kids there a lot - at least until they turn 12!
You’d love my DH, he’s nuts about American History. One of our goals is to visit EVERY HISTORICAL MONUMENT IN PENNSYLVANIA!! If we finish before retirement home age, we’ll start on Virginia, New York and all those little states in between the two :roflhard:
making Hilde feel better
It wasn’t to my cat, but I used to sing this to my son -
ahemcough cough (to the tune of Winnie the Pooh)
Mat- chew bear
Mat-chew bear
chubby little tubby kid
all stuffed with yummies
Mat-chew bear
Mat-chew bear
chubby little tubby old boooooy…

OH YES, I know how THAT works…like when DH says, “You know, WE should really clean out the refrigerator” Or, “I think WE should trim the hedges tomorrow since its gonna be so nice out…”

Hi punkhippiemom! :waving:

I enjoyed your list of 100 things! Especially #57-61; I feel the same way! And I always thought that I could do well at those name that tune games, but now that I think about it, I could probably sing along to most songs but couldn’t actually name them.

hey Beck (hehee using a nick name already!) Nice reading about you - I used to be way into punk too but now that I’m old (going on 46) I don’t listen to it as much as in the old days! Worthless claim to fame ;): Lived in the same apartment bulidng as Pere Ubu, and worked (for a short while) for Alternative Press.

Rock on! What are you fav bands? Here’s some of mine:

Bowie
Velvet Underground
The Clash
Joy Division
Gang of Four
Meat Puppets
Siouxie and the Banshees
Au Pair
Pavement
Mercury Rev
Flaming Lips
Pere Ubu
Magnetic Fields
Blur (much better than Oasis in my mind!)
Will Oldham (aka Bonnie Prince Billy)

just the tip of the iceburg!

TOTALLY agree with #54 on your list! I live in a VERY liberal college town and I love it!

Looking forward to your blog!

What…no Violent Femmes or The Cramps?

actually I intended to mention X and Nick Cave (and of course, Nick Drake, but that’s a whole 'nother genre)

VF and the Cramps - I love hearing them, like on a college station or something, but they’re not bands I would go out and buy a CD to replace my vinyl or old cassettesl!

Actually, that’s my trick to clean out the refrigerator  :roflhard: Although I’m not as much into American history as DH, I actually do want to go - I just like historic sites  (yes, I know I’m a geek)- that’s all we ever did when I was a kid, I think we went to every historic landmark in MI at least twice…
:waving: Hi Mer! I’m glad you stopped in to visit my craziness for a while (; I am probably the most law-abiding anti-establishment person you’ll ever meet … my heart screams “Revolution!” but my practicality usually wins… :??
Hiya Carol- from- OH- (my mom was born there, in …Warren, I think??) BTW, you’re never too old to rock out, DH and I went to the Warped Tour last year and I was suprised at how many older (as compared to the teenagers, I mean, not as compared to me!!) people there were. It was pretty cool, I thought.

Bowie -Velvet Underground-The Clash-Joy Division-Gang of Four-Meat Puppets-Siouxie and the Banshees-Au Pair-Pavement-Mercury Rev-Flaming Lips-Pere Ubu-Magnetic Fields-Blur (much better than Oasis in my mind!)-Will Oldham (aka Bonnie Prince Billy)
just the tip of the iceburg
No kidding! I have to confess, as a newcomer to punk music (thanks to DH) and completely taught my appreciation of it by him, I am more into the contemporary type - I love Bad Religion (which, by the way, if there is ANYONE reading this who doesn’t know who Bad Religion is, you have to check them out, they are probably the most intelligent and thought provoking band I have ever listened to -the lead singer is a college professor and the band actually sponsors a anthropology scholarship- and besides that, they just F’n rock!!)Flogging Molly (very cool Irish punk band),NOFX,Pennywise, Lagwagon, Guttermouth, Unwritten Law, Green Day, Offspring, Catch22, Rancid…to name the ones that pop to the top of my brain…I do - casually- like Blur, Meat Puppets, Flaming Lips, Velvet Underground, Bowie…I ADORE Violent Femmes, have almost all their albums, and I saw Nick Cave (and the Bad Seeds) at Lollapalooza  almost ten years ago!!!God, has it been that long?? oh ick, it was actually longer…
I am appreciative of most genres of music, but modern day rap and R&B kind of repulses me…mostly because it almost all seems to be fake, and about surface issues rather than anything that means anything…I do enjoy a little old-school rap, BeastieBoys of course and RunDMC - my DH is a big Will Smith fan. I enjoy Eminem, to a degree - I could just literally let myself be hypnotized by the way he puts words together, but I’ve never bought any of his stuff because I don’t agree with his lyrics at all - I think it’s a shame that he wastes his enormous talent on singing about trash…
I am a big fan of oldies, Elvis and Roy Orbison and anything Motown, The Beach Boys and all the girl groups and Tina Turner and Carole King…
Phew!! I told you not to get me started…And I haven’t even got to the classic rock portion of the show…Well, I’ll skip it for now…
I love concerts, my first concert ever I was 10 and went to see Steppenwolf - I only knew two songs (born to be wild and magic carpet ride) and I was a little scared of all the bikers, but it was way cool and I got John K’s autograph, since then I’ve been hooked… but, because of children and growing up and various other reasons, I’ve only been to two concerts in the last eight years… :frowning:
Alternative Press was just advertising for reporters, and I was really geeked, but they wanted reviewers for emo/electronica…I had to google it just to find out what it was, so I don’t think I’d qualify…

Well, I am amazed and -I will admit- rather gratified at seeing so many people stopping in :happydance: Hopefully, Next time I’ll actually have something about KNITTING posted :roflhard:

8, 8, I forget what 8 is for, but 9’s for a lost cause and 10, 10, 10, 10, 10 is for everything–everything–everything!!

You are my kinda people, Beck! Someday I’ll post one of my prom pictures, if I can find them. I can’t believe that was 19 years ago.

Love your 100 things. I STILL haven’t gotten around to that.

Good times…goooooood times… :roflhard: That is so one of my favorite songs - I think my mom wanted to wring my neck because I used to just play that tape over and over and over… my sis and I used to just laugh hysterically at their one song, Jesus of Rio I think, because it suddenly goes all polka and cheerful as he’s singing…
“I was with a WHORE, in COPENHAGEN, drinking eight hundred dollars worth of champagne - in KRONER” for some reason, it just struck us as hilarious…
I also really like Cake, they kind of remind me of the Violent Femmes in ska version…
yes yes Cake = good! Was listening to my broken down tape of VM on the way back from Philly a few months ago - good times, good times indeed.

I have heard many good things about Flogging Molly - what is their best album!? Of course, the Pogues still make me wanna cry and down a few dozen guinnesses!

<–is very old school - and more post-punk than total hard core punk - though is very straight edge these days!

oh, and the first concert I ever went to was Jethro Tull! That was about 30 years ago! YIKES!!!

One of the BEST shows I ever saw was Madness! And Public Image Limited (Johnny Rotten’s band)! X played a great show, and was able to see Duran Duran’s first tour (I know, they’re not punk at all but boy does John Taylor look good still!) Also got to see U2 their first tour, too. Didn’t get to see the Sex Pistols though - was on the way to purchase tickets when they cancelled their American tour. waaaaaaaaa

Oops sorry, I’m walking down ol’ memory lane here and hogging your blog, Beck!
