A Funny thing happened with colorway yarn

Okay, I bought 2 skeins of a yarn that was an orange, yellow and grey colorway. Same maker, same dye lot, everything the same. I thought I’d make striped socks.

So, made the first sock on Saturday. Didn’t come out striped, came out sort of like a diagonal pattern over the whole sock. Looks like the outline of a country or something. Kinda cool actually so I didn’t think anything of it.

Started the second sock yesterday afternoon. Same dye lot, mind you. The second sock is striped. Is that bizarre or what? Has this happened to anyone else?

I usually just knit right off the skein, I don’t wind yarn into balls. I’m thinking that maybe if I had started with the other end of the second skein that it would have made the same pattern as the first sock.

I’m not really particular and now they’ll be unique, but strange, huh? :??

That is weird

Depending on the width of the colorway, colors will sometimes “pool” while you’re knitting. It’s a pain when you’re going for stripes, but I rather like the effect.

I bet you were just knitting from opposite ends of the colorway.
