A curly stockinette stitch problem

I just started knitting a long pending project - The Evanescence sweater by LifeisCozy.
While it is mostly a mindless knit with Stockinette stitch throughout, the mindfulness comes in transitioning the colors appropriately at the correct rows as suggested by the pattern. The sweater is knitted from left to right (not top down or bottom up !!) and the stripes that pop up from the color transitions are beautiful !

The Stockinette stitch results in my knit curling up which makes it difficult and annoying as I knit - I am sure once I join up the pieces, it will all fall well into place, but is there something I can do to straighten it right away - for instance, knitting a couple of rib rows or so on the provisional CO row ?

Any suggestions would be very helpful !

Lovely knitting and pattern. It’s so intriguing to knit a sweater side to side and it gives a standout stripe pattern.

What is going to happen to the provisional cast on edge once you’ve finished? Is it seamed to another piece?
You could place clips on the curling edge (similar to the hairclips that are used to hold sweater pieces together for seaming). Anything that adds a small weight to the edge. Otherwise, I’d leave it. Eventually the weight of the knitting itself will lessen the curl.

Thank you !
The provisional CO edge is used to join the front piece with a 3 needle BO - so I am sure it will fall in place like you said, @salmonmac.
I will buy a set of claw clips - that is an awesome tip - and see whether they are “strong” enough to “tame” the stockinette stitch

I am using 100% Merino 4 ply yarn Debbie Bliss Rialto as against the John Arbor Alpaca Supreme (which is 40% each alpaca and merino, and 20% mulberry silk) - heavier and probably will not fall as elegantly as the original.

Oh my - the choice of yarn and guage still terrifies me and keeps me in a state of constant doubt …

Thanks again !

You could also very gently steam it with a steam iron through a cloth, hovering, not touching the cloth with the iron. And on the lowest iron setting that produces steam. It might relax the fabric enough to make it easier to handle.

Lovely colours!

Will certainly try that out @kushami, thank you

I’ve never ever seen side to side knitting before. How fascinating. Can you kindly post a picture of the finished jumper?

Are you using two strands and blending colours? Just wanted to be sure, I like the look of how the colours are transitioning!

It is still work in progress, @Blackcats. Here is how it looks when spread out

yes, indeed @Shintoga, it is always holding two strands together - either the same color or different colors. The pattern says - 3 different colors of sports/heavy fingering yarn held double or 5 different colors of worsted eight yarn held single. With the latter, it could take longer to knit, but the dual color stripes may come out cleaner, perhaps ?
