Hi! I just got the book “A Close-Knit Family” by M. Leapman. There’s an instruction in there that is driving me crazy! The pattern calls for a bobble:
(K1,yarn over) four times into next stitch, K1 again into same stitch; P5, turn; K5, turn;p2tog,P1,p2tog, turn; slip 1 stitch knitwise, k2tog,psso)
As I see it (and please, please tell me if I’m wrong!) k1,yo four times plus one more K gives me 9 stitches! The pattern only tells me to work on 5. I also think they left out a “Turn” in the first line. HELP!!
I should probably just use a different bobble pattern but I just want to make sure I’m not missing something. I contacted Taunton Press and they said they don’t have any error sheets for this book. (Maybe they will now!)
Any advice is very appreciated!

I get what you get. Maybe it should have said k1 p1 instead of k1 yo. That would make more sense.
Or, just K1 YO 2.5 times…
I wanted you to know I just received a really nice email from Melissa Leapman (the author) herself! She told me that I was right and that it should be K1 yo (twice) not four times. I’m so glad I read patterns before I start!
On the one hand, it’s great that you got the correction, but on the other hand, don’t people proofread??? :rollseyes:

You are so right!! I saw the post about corrections in the SnB books. These are books for absolute beginners. How many people got so frustrated with an incorrect pattern that they gave up on knitting altogether? I bought the Ann Budd books and was going crazy over one of the patterns until you put me onto the Interweave corrections page. I seem to be able to knit in my head while I read a pattern and can usually find the error before I start. Maybe this is a career opportunity for me <g>! I could be a proofreader for knitting books and magazines.
How boring a job would that be?
You’d think, though, that someone knit the pattern–didn’t they notice that things didn’t work?
