4 sizes, 2 choices in []'s?

Hi all, ok, now for the problem…

I’m making the shaped pullover featured in vogue very easy knits and am on the sleeves. The instructions are for 4 different sizes, as usual, placed in ()'s. Now on the raglan shaping instruction it says this:

Rep this row every [2nd, 4th] row 3 times, then every 2nd row 5(6,8,10) times–9 sts.

It’s the numbers in the brackets I’m wondering what to do with. I at first thought maybe they were grouping the first two sizes tog and then the second two tog, but it didn’t work out that way. I’ve got way too many sts left for that to be their intent.

Thanks to anyone who knows what I should do and tells me. :knitting: <-- i love this!lol

I think it means to repeat the decrease row every 2nd row, every 4th row, every 2nd row, every 4th row, every 2nd row, every 4th row (that’s 3 times total). Does that make sense of the st numbers? How many sts do you have to start and what is the raglan decrease row that you are repeating? Or is there a link to the pattern?

hi salmonmac,

there isn’t a link to the pattern, unfortunately. i’m supposed to go from 43 sts to 9 before that one last dec. Here is the entire section of instructions (noting that we’re beg with 43 sts on the needle):

raglan cap shaping
Dec row (RS) K3, k2tog, work to last 5 sts. Rep this row every [2nd, 4th] row 3 times, then every 2nd row 5(6,8,10) times–9 sts. Work 1 row even.
Next Row (RS) K2, k2tog, k1, ssk k2. Place rem 7 sts on a holder.

someone made it at ravelry but i can’t post links here yet… at any rate there are no notes about that part, just a picture and other info. such as yarns used, etc.

i will try the way you said; i had actually thought about that but dismissed it.

thanks for taking the time to help me figure this out :muah:

Dec row (RS) K3, k2tog, work to last 5 sts. SSK, K3 Rep this row every [2nd, 4th] row 3 times, then every 2nd row 5(6,8,10) times–9 sts. Work 1 row even.
Next Row (RS) K2, k2tog, k1, ssk k2. Place rem 7 sts on a holder

I think that there’s a decrease and a k3 missing from the quote. I can get to 11st left for the largest size: (2 decreases per row x2 x3=12 and then 2 decreases per row x 10=20). Which size are you making?
