3 color cashmere shawl by Joji

I’m a new knitter and even though I made this before I’m confused. As im starting this shawl it will say k to the last yo and then k2. This leaves extra stitches so I’m not sure if I’m supposed to wrap and turn the work then and do a short row? It doesn’t say turn in the pattern, but I can’t figure out how it’s supposed to work. The shawl is worked from the center top down.

Welcome to the forum!
How many extra sts do you have after the yarn over?

There aren’t short rows in the pattern according to the description. No projects describe short rows and there’s usually some discussion of how to work them if they occur in a pattern.

From the photos it looks like the yarn over is knit and there are 2sts at the edge? See here, the last photo:

and here, also the last photo:

I may be having difficulty recognizing the last yo. I guess I’m confused about why it doesn’t just say 3 stitches from the end kyok and k2 as opposed to k to the last yo if the last yo is always 3 stitches from the end?

It looks like there are 2 edge sts preceded by a yarn over:
knit to the yarn over, yo, k2.
(You’re not using a stitch to work the yarn over, are you? It’s just bringing the yarn to the front between the needles and the over the right needle to the back.)

I don’t know why it’s written as it is. Presumably the designer felt that was a clearer way to say it.

No I’m just doing a yarn over not a stitch and the total stitch count is right according to the place in the pattern. Thanks for your help! I think I just got turned around by the language and then I have a hard time looking at the work when it’s just starting and seeing the yo. Like I said…new knitter easily confused🙄

All this counts as experience and all of it pays off. Glad you’ve got it going. It’s such a lovely pattern.

It’s working now:) I was doing the k to p yo wrong.
