2 to 3 inches negative wearing ease

I am trying to figure out which size will work for me and there is the Note: This garment is made with 2 to 3 inches negative wearing ease for a close, body-conscious fit in the bust area.

I have seen this type of note before but never was sure how this works…

can someone explain it to me…

bust choices are: 30 1/4, 35 3/4, 41 1/4. how does the note affect these options, i need for about 36 1/2 bust.

Help!!!

I’d do the 35 3/4" size, and then perhaps switch to a slightly smaller needle at the bust if necessary. If you can try it on as you knit it, it makes it easier…

Negative ease means the item will measure smaller than your bust size. That won’t mean it’s too small - if you measure many of the storebought sweaters you like the fit of, they may well be smaller than your bust size, and sweaters often look better with a little negative ease. This pattern has a good 4" between sizes, so I’d say go for the 35 3/4 for you too. That will give you about an inch of negative ease.
