2 row 1's

I am very new to this. I’m trying to begin this pattern but I don’t understand why it says row 1 under pattern stitches then below that it says row one again.
This is what it says:
Pattern stitches
Row 1 k1 p1 k1
Repeat row 1 for pattern

Row 1 k32
Row 2…

And so on…

Everyone of the patterns in this book are like this. Annie’s baby washcloths and afghan squares. Can anyone explain how to do these patterns?

Here is a link to the book in case anyone has worked patterns from it.

What does Row 2 say?

Row 2 P32
Row 3 k2 p8 3x k2

I don’t understand why there are 2 row 1’s.

Welcome to Knitting Help!
Often, patterns wil give you the pattern stitches separately from the pattern itself. It sounds like this is the pattern stitch:
Pattern stitches
Row 1 k1 p1 k1
Repeat row 1 for pattern

And this is the beginning of the actual pattern:
Row 1 k32
Row 2…

I’ll admit that the actual pattern usually begins with a cast on number but maybe this one is different.
If you read further in the pattern is there a place where it tells you to work the pattern stitches? Somewhere after perhaps a border is worked?

One other thought. See if there is an introduction to the book that describes the patterns and the general layout.

I took a picture but I’m not sure if it’s okay to post it. Can I email it to someone whoknowshow to read these darn things?

Go ahead and post the beginning of the pattern if you can do that.
Here are some directions that may help.

Awww! After studying the pattern I figured out I needed to start in the middle of the page and go back to that. Thanks everyone for helping me. I’m sure I’ll have more questions along the way. Thanks again!

 Learning what you need to ferret out in a pattern is as important as knowing what the abbreviations mean. This will come in useful often.
