Hi everyone,
I have a gorgeous pattern that states 4 ply yarn to be used. I’m looking around for some but have come across a lovely 2 ply yarn - right colour, washing instructions (i.e. machine washable but it till has a lot of wool in it), price etc. Can I buy the 2 ply? Do I just buy double the amount the pattern states and knit with two strands from two balls of wool?
Advice gratefully received,

The best way to tell is to knit a swatch with the doubled 2 ply and see if you can make the pattern gauge. Be sure to knit a large enough swatch, maybe 35-40sts so that you can measure over the middle 10cm for the most accurate idea of gauge.
If that works, double the yarn amount called for and add in an extra ball or 2 just to be sure.
What is the name of your pattern?

Best to make a swatch, I agree - also, maybe it’s just me, but I find fabric knitted with two strands drapes differently than using one strand of the equivalent thickness. You might want to take that into account, but otherwise I hope the alternative yarn you found will work doubled up.
