A few rows back in my jumper I had to undo a row to fix a mistake, and when I knitted back across it (1x1 rib stitch) I found that it no longer looks the same. My lovely tense knitted ‘V’s are no longer tightly twisted together. I’ve attached a photo to show what I mean. Below are the old stitches before the mistake, and above are the stitches I’m knitting now. What have I done? And how can I fix it? Would appreciate any help! Thank you x
The stitches in the lower part of your knitting are twisted. The upper portion is the conventional knit stitch.
If you want to twist the knit sts (and some patterns call for this), knit into the back of the stitch. This video explains it and goes into detail on other ways to twist sts.
After ripping back, did you make you mounted each stitch correctly back on the needle? I.e., right leg should be in front. In other words, the leg closest to the tip of the left needle should be in front. If you have any mounted with left in front, you’ll get twisted stitches.
