1987 pattern from Susan Bates, "My Knitting Teacher" calling for discontinued Patons "Shetland-Style Chunky" 50 g balls for Aran Vest. Trying to calculate what the yardage would be...
Hello
Here’s the result on yarnsub which is not an exact match as it’s a 100g ball rather than 50g
https://yarnsub.com/yarns/patons_north_america/shetland_chunky
100g = 148 yards
(So 50g = 74 yards)
Here’s a 50g ball of what looks like it could be it
It has a ball band photo
50g = 82 yards
If it was me I’d make an approximation of 90 or 100 yards per 50g to ensure I had enough of the substitute yarn. Multiplied by the number of balls for the selected size
Eg smallest
90 yards × 6 balls = 540 yards
Then I’d make to have that amount which is a little over estimated, and add another ball. Better to have too much than too little.
Hope you find his helpful.
