1940s lace pattern

Hello again :upside_down_face:
Struggling to understand this part of the pattern on sleeve. No matter how many times I read it .
Can anyone simplify it please.!
Managed to do the bind off and decrease 1 each end of next 3 rows but now im stuck . TIA

In case it can be found online, what’s the name of your pattern? I hope you don’t mind that I’m including your attachment in this post to make it easier for those who are good at explaining patterns.

Thanks, GG. Pollycraft, which size are you making, 1st,2nd or 3rd?
For the first size for example, call the first decrease row (the row after the bind off rows) row 1. Then you would dec at each end of rows 1,2 and 3 (which you have done). Then dec on rows 5,7,911 and 13. Dec on rows 17,21,25,29,33 and 37.
That takes the first size to 23sts. From there the directions are a bit vague. There’s a decrease of 14sts to get to 9sts and the decreases are distributed between every other row and every row but the pattern doesn’t specify how. You might distribute the decreases at each end on rows 39,41,43 and 45 then rows 46,47 and 48. But check to see if that fits the opening for the sleeve cap. The distribution between every other row and every row could be altered in this last paragraph.

Thank you both .
I am doing the 3rd size ,so next 7, alt rows, then every 4th row until 27 stitches remain .confused as to where the next 4th row begins if that makes any sense

For the 3rd size, dec on rows 1,2,3 then rows 5,7,9,11,13,15 and 17. Every 4th row begins with row 21,25,29,33 and so on until 27sts remain.

Many thanks again . So for 3rd size it is not row 7?sorry to be a pain

Dec on the first 3 rows. Then decrease on alternate rows or every other row. The “next 7 alt rows” is telling you how many repeats of every other row there should be. That’s row 5,7,9,11,13,15 and 17. Seven repeats of every other row or dec 7 times at each end on every other row.

The same holds for the every 4th row. Dec on rows 21,25,29,33,37,41 and 45 which will take you to 27sts.

This is the place to ask, so questions are always welcome. Ask away until it makes sense to you.
