Hi everyone. This is a link for the pattern that I am currently working and having a problem with.
I am knitting the bootees and I have reached the point " next row rs K tog first st with corresponding st of first “pleat”
row, (K tog next st with corresponding st of first “pleat” row)
24 [26: 30: 32] times – “pleat” completed, then P to end of row.
41 [45: 49: 53] sts.
Beg with a K row, work in rev st st (rev stockinette st) across
all sts for 5 [7: 7: 9] rows, ending with a ws row"
I can’t figure out which sts to knit together. Which is the first st? Is it the first of the 45? An which st is the corresponding st?
Work 5 rows in stockinette including the sts picked up along the 3 sides of the instep. The first row of the 5 is the first pleat row. You’re going to make a pleat or tuck by knitting together the first stitch of the row with the first stitch 5 rows below. Then continue knitting together the 2nd stitch on the needle with the 2nd stitch 5 rows below and so on. It’s actually easier to do this a keep on track if you pick up the sts 5 rows below on a smaller size needle first.
In this video the sts 7 rows below are picked up but you are going to use the 5th row below.
I’ve currently finished the pleat stitches (they look super cool, wow!), and now I’m at the part where it says to P to end of row, pattern here:
K tog first st with corresponding st of first “pleat” row, 24 [26: 30: 32] times – “pleat” completed, then P to end of row. 41 [45: 49: 53] sts.
Beg with a K row, work in rev st st (rev stockinette st) across all sts for 5 [7: 7: 9] rows, ending with a ws row.
I’ve currently got my side stitches on two stitch holders to the left and right. Do I purl those? The next step says to do reverse stockinette of all stitches (starting with a knit row) for 7 rows. I’m assuming the purl row I’m supposed to do before this (P to end) sets this up? But do I need to take the other stitches off the holder? I’m confused. :’(
That pleat or tuck does look impressive. It’s a clever detail on these booties and works well on hats too.
Purl to the end including sts on one of the holders, then continue across all the sts for the following rows. So yes, you’ll be taking the sts off the holders.
