Yes, even just means you aren't going to do anymore increases or decreases, and just knit the est. pattern and keep same amount of sts. The rows you have knitted before this don't have anything to do with the next three rows.
What I don't get is why the peeps at your yarn store were stumped by this? If they are seasoned knitters, they shouldn't have been. Maybe you can find a store that has a knitting night, and you can get those people that come in to knit to help you next time? It makes it so much easier to be able to ask someone that is knowledgable, esp. when they can show you how to do something.
