Has anyone ever knitted or even seen stretch yarn? I'd like to knit fingerless mittens but don't know if there is such a yarn.
I think cascade fixation is the one with some elastic in it, and it isn't very expensive. you might want to check the yarn index (for the life of me I can't find my link- someone- is it yarndex.com?) for types of yarn with elastic properties.

I have 2 balls of that here too. Its supposed to be socks...but right now its sleeping.
The yarns listed above are good options. You could also find a pattern that has ribbing in it (using regular yarn) and the ribbing will stretch. I knit these and they stretch very nicely to fit over my hand and have a snug fit.
Sarah_Jayne, I've always been confused by that pattern's instructions to use a "DK Worsted" weight yarn. Which did you use?
I forgot about that part of the pattern! I used this and made the size small and it fits fine. I have small hands/wrists but wide palms and it worked well. I'd go with worsted weight!
elle stretch DK is another option. The link goes to a color card. I paid 6 dollars a ball for this at one of my LYSs. It knits up REALLY nice.
