I've been doing this for over a year now - and it has been working... but why? :??
I went through the videos on this site to see if I was a Continental or English knitter - and came out with some very odd results.
What I considered my 'purl' stitch is almost exactly the Continental 'knit' stitch in the video - but I hold the yarn in front of the needle, held in the left hand.
What I considered my 'knit' stitch is almost exactly the Combined 'purl' stitch in the video - but again, my yarn is in front of the needle and held in the left hand.
A lady I knew at work tried to teach me how to knit. I got a bit of what she was trying to show me, and figured out my 'purling' by trial and error at home.
I have produced socks, hats and scarves with this odd combination - yet now I am not even quite sure why it is working! I've had no luck trying any patterns except the kind that say 'garter stitch' or 'stockinette' for so many inches, decrease 2 etc etc. And I've been having a terrible time learning increases (now I know why).
Do I have any hope? Or should I try to 'learn all over'?
