Depends on how long. Many things are longer than straight needles. Scrunching up is just part of it. But if it's really a lot longer, so that keeping all of the sts on 1 needle is difficult, then, yes, a circ is the way to go, just treating the 2 ends as if they were 2 separate needles. But if it's really, REALLY long, then you can use 2 circular needles, putting point protectors (or a piece of cork works well-- it'll be a custom, tight fit) on one end of each and treating them as if they were 2 ultra-long straights.
