Hi, I'm new to knitting and need help understanding a pattern:"(k8, inc once in each of the next 4 st) twice" is the instruction, and I have 26 stitches to start with. What exactly should I be doing, and how many stitches will I end up with? Thanks!
What it sounds like is you increase once in each of the next 4 stitches and then do it again. I don't know why they wouldn't just say 8. Can you give us the pattern name and a link please? It helps when you ask questions because patterns are all different.
Hi, the pattern is from a pack I was given as a present. Its a bear, I think from HobbyCraft but I don't have a link or anything Most of it has been easy to follow but this step has confused me somewhat!!
It is confusing. You should repeat the directions in parentheses twice. So k8, increase once in each of the next 4sts, k8, increase once in each of the next 4sts.That only uses 24sts however. Are there any other directions for this row? The 24sts will give you 32sts because of the 8 added sts.
As SalmonMac said, the instructions use 24sts but you say you have 26. By chance do you have 2 selvedge sts, one on each end?
If so, then...Selvedge1, (K8, kfb x4) x2, Selvedge1
Thank you! I'm not sure what to do with the last 2 stitches but hopefully those 2 extras won't make too much difference in the end!
You need to account for these two sts.
What pattern are you making?
Does the pattern tell you how many sts you should have at the end of the the last row and at the end of this row, and do you know if you already have the correct number of sts?
Are you knitting flat or in the round? I ask because depending upon the distribution of sts on DPNs, the "(k8, inc once in each of the next 4 st) twice" might be written to accommodate the sts on different needles. Just a thought and maybe totally irrelevant.
Hi ive searched and searched looking for help with this pattern. And haven't found any thing that is close to my pattern. My directions say [k1 (P1, K1 into YO)] I understand the but how to knitt one into a yarn over is a mystery to me. Also how to purl into a yarn over.. Now ive seen directions of how to purl or knitt into the front or back of a yarn over but my directions say just to knitt or purl into a yarn over. How is this done? If anyone knows of a video or pictures of how this is done I do best learning virtually. Thank you.
I'm not sure GG. I'm a total beginner so don't know what that means but I'm only using one set of needles (sorry if that's a stupid reply to your question!)The instructions said to cast on 26 st then the next row is where I need to increase. I'm wondering whether there was a typo and it should have said 24...?
I think you may be right. Perhaps it should be a cast on of 24 with an increase of 8 sts in the next row (you'll end the row with 32sts).What are the directions for the next two rows?
Maybe this bear?http://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/get-crafty-knitted-teddy-bear-kit/582626-1000
