I know there are different types of opal sock yarn, what is a good/average price for one ball??? I've seen anywhere from almost $10.00 on e-bay to over $14.00. I'd sure love to try it, what are your thoghts on how this yarn works for socks, is it soft? What yarn do you like best for sock making?
I've made my first and only sock with it, and I love how it feels! Very warm, plus it's machine washable!
'Kemp' on here sells it at her store, Diva Knitting, I think her prices are pretty good.
I "think" I've made a paid of socks from this, it works up nicely and my sock are very comfy...if I could only find them...
Opal is one of my favorite sock yarns. It runs around $15 per ball. You can find a nice selection at DivaKnitting, she has great prices, too! She also has some Opal on sale!
Some sale stuff here for $10.99/skein
and www.astridsdutchobsession.com currently has Opal Uni on sale for $7.50 a skein. Her shipping isn't too bad either and very prompt.
Opal is the best!!!
Astrid's site is http://astridsdutchobsessions.com/scripts/default.aspShe has meilenweit on sale right now.
I like Baby Ull. It's 100% wool, very soft and I make mine just a tiny bit bigger than I should and I throw them in the washer and toss them in the dryer until they're almost dry. I've been using this yarn for years and just love it.
Opal has been the only thing I have made my socks with - it runs about $15-$19 a skein at my LYS. I was just up there this weekend and the owner said that the original man who did the designs is back and he's running through some fabulous patterns, but the price is going to rise pretty steeply on these new yarns so stock up on Opal if you can find it at a decent price.
I love Opal sock yarn. I have a pair of socks made from Opal and I wear them all the time (well, I do wash them a lot too lol). They have held up great. I wash and dry them in the machine.
yep...prices are up at the distributor too.
