I hadn't thought about the selvage edges for seams. That was a good point by Mirl56.
Basic rules for simple patterns (just k and p)
First, Knit and Purl are opposites. A purl on the WS is a knit from the right side.
Second, the order is reversed on WS rows. When you turn and work WS from right to left then the pattern stitches are written in a RS left to right order. So a Row 2 (P4, K1) repeat across pattern would become (P1, K4) even across.
Third, increases and decreases may not have a suitable "opposite" so a substitution may be needed. I've read post about it but do not claim knowledge of the many inscrutable increases and decreases and the nuances of combining them.[/color]
