Would anyone be able to offer some advice on an old pattern that I am following? I am working on a crew neck pullover, starting with the back. It is knit in pieces, from the bottom up.
For the back, I worked upwards and put a marker for the underarm and did a little decreasing in the following rows. This is what I am questioning:
"work until 9 inches above underarm marker, end with k row"
So, if i put my tape measure at the underarm marker right now and follow the edge of the knitted piece, it is 9" til the needle (next row to be knit). But that is on an angle due to the decreases. If i hold the tape measure up straight from the underarm marker i will still have several rows to knit to make 9" straight up. (this way seems a bit long to me)
Which way should I measure? along the knit edge on an angle? or straight up from the row with the marker? my progress hinges on this measurement right now and I think it will alter the fit if I do it wrong!!!!
Thanks to all who have any advice with this vintage pattern.
