I'm knitting a top for my mother and it calls for Rowan 4ply cotton. I can't really find a color in it I like. Can anyone suggest an alternative (and preferably economical) yarn I can substitute? Here's a link to the pattern.
According to Yarndex it's a fingering weight cotton so find some that weight (sock weight) and it should work. http://www.yarndex.com/yarn.cfm?yarn_id=95
I looked on Ravelry and people have used a variety of yarns including Paton's Grace, Brown Sheep Cotton Fine, Jaeger Sienna, and more.
I don't know how to post a new thread sorry, but could you tell me an alternative to Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy (41% cotton, 34% hemp, 25% modal :?
That is a DK weight yarn, so you could replace it with a different yarn that is the same weight. What is it you are planning to knit? That will give us a better idea of what to suggest.
When you first go to the General Knitting page there is an orange "Start a New Thread" button located in the upper left side of the page. Click on it and you'll go to the page where you'll be able to post a new thread.

That is a beautiful dress! Being that it is a summer dress, I would steer away from anything with wool. It is helpful if you can find a yarn that has a similar amount of yardage as the yarn you are looking to substitute.
This yarn is a sesame color and is on sale, if you like the color it could be a possibility:
Maybe do a search for DK weight yarns and see what you come up with. Why did you not want to use the yarn that is suggested?
Your link isn't working quite right. Try this: http://www.interweavestore.com/dawn-dress
that is a beautiful yarn and half the price!Thank you so much.
The yarn that was suggested in the pattern is too expensive for me
Wow! I just looked at what it would cost to knit a medium sized dress with the suggested yarn - $168
Would it if you were to keep us updated on your project
