I have tons of crochet books, but only a couple for knitting.

I really like Teach Yourself Visually: Knitting. It has great intsructions and full color pics.
Look at the books your local library has, check them out and study them a bit; maybe you can find one you'd like to buy,
My favorite is one I found at the library and liked so much I bought a copy. The Sweater Workshop by Jacqueline Fee. It focuses on knitting in the round and explains how to design your own sweaters and gives the formulas for figuring out stitch count accounting for needle size and yarn used and your knitting gauge. I photocopied the worksheet about 20 times and keep them ready for my next sweater project. There's a place on the sheet to write down yarn used and needle size so you can keep it for future reference.
