I've got i project on dpns right now that i want to take on the train to work, just wondering how to pack them in my tote bag so i don't lose the stitches.
You can get point protectors, but in a pinch, rubber bands wrapped around the ends of a needle will keep the stitches on. Or even flatten out the needles so they're parallel and put a rubber band around the ends on each side.
Or better yet invest in some of these! My friend has them and they are great!http://www.knitpicks.com/accessories/Sock_Knitting_Needle_Holders__D80601.html
I was working on a DP project during lunch at work and had the same question. Then I remembered doing some desk cleaning and throwing away two dried up highlighters. I took the caps off the highlighter and found that the DP end fit nicely into the caps. I then taped a rubber band around the ends if the caps for some tension. Once the wip was folded so all the needles were parallel I added the loose needle fit them in to one of the caps pulled the rubber band and fit the other ends of the needle in to the other cap. No chance of loosing a stitch.
