I'm making a hat for my son using a pattern he helped pick out(I figure he's more likely to wear it if he helped pick out what it looked like). The body is 7" so I need to start my decrease rounds. My problem: to make the hat fit his head with the yarn I'm using, I had to modify the pattern slightly. Instead of casting on 85 as pattern called for I cast on 95.
Naturally if I do the decreases as written in pattern I will have too many stitches left over...so what do I do? Add 10 extra decrease rows and risk the shaping being off? K2tog repeatedly once I finish the decreases per pattern?
This hat has about 4 inches 2x3 ribbing and is stockinette till the decreases. Any suggestions?
