Thanks everyone, for the compliments.
ArtLady, yes, I designed it myself. I have a pattern with a sweater almost like it (very similar, but with changes of color, a collar and completely different construction, # of stitches etc.) in an older Leisure Arts leaflet (#935), but I didn't follow the pattern. I used the stitch pattern they did, but otherwise I figured it out on my own. I glanced at a few things as I went....like I wanted to make the sleeves shoulder down and I looked to see how they did theirs, and they did them top down too, but they had seams. (I was wondering if I could really do the cables upside down without them looking completely different.)
I did a few things more than once and did some odd things. When I started the cables I was working in the round and decided to make the cable twists every 5 rounds and then when I divided I thought I was in hot water. If you are working back and forth an even number of rows works easier, but I discovered you can twist at least a C4F cable from the purl side and it works fine. Didn't know that. So I got out of that one.
I fudged a little on the cables near the neck opening. One side worked fine, but I twisted the cable one row sooner than I should have on the other side because it looked better that way rather than having a long section of cable that didn't get twisted right in front. Hard to explain, but I tried both ways.
The sleeves: I did the first sleeve and then decided I couldn't get the second one like it so I took the first one out and started it planning to only center 3 cables over the shoulder and then started thinking I wasn't going to be real happy with that, so I fooled around until I figured out how to make them mirror image. I surprised myself on that and hopefully learned something. I'm just a newbie at figuring things out and I make a lot of mistakes a wiser person wouldn't make.
I did the neckband 4 different times before I was happy.
